London Wilson was named Yakima Valley College’s head men’s basketball coach on June 27, 2016 and is entering his eighth season as the program’s helm. Prior to being named head coach, Wilson served 11 years in the roles of assistant coach and associate head coach for the Yaks, under current athletic director Ray Funk. Wilson led the Yaks to the 2021-22 NWAC Championship, the program's sixth title. He was an assistant coach for the 2008 NWAC crown. Wilson was named NWAC "Coach of the Year" for the 2021-22 season.
During his entire tenure with the men’s basketball program at YVC, Wilson has been instrumental in the development of over 75 players moving on to a wide variety of levels. This includes professionally (NBA, G-League, and overseas) as well as to four-year schools at the NCAA Division 1, 2, 3 and NAIA levels. During his eight years as YVC's head coach, he has led the Yaks to NWAC tournament appearances in the 2017-18 and 2019-20 seasons and compiled an overall record of 85-97.
As an intercollegiate student-athlete, Wilson’s playing career includes being a point guard for NCAA Division 1-member program University of Nevada, Reno from 2001-03. During his experience with the Wolfpack, he played for head coach Trent Johnson and was named team captain in 2003 for a squad that qualified for the NIT tournament. Wilson is also a Yak men's basketball program alumnus, having played at YVC from 2000-01 after a stint at Sierra College in Rocklin, CA (1999-00.)
After his playing career, Wilson worked for the Boys and Girls Club in Reno before relocating back to the Yakima Valley to formally pursue his coaching career. Originally from Albion, MI, he has also spent years of his life in Nevada, Minnesota, Colorado and California, which has resulted in many lifetime bonds and friendships that have proven to assist him with his career goals.
Wilson has earned a Master’s degree in Sports Science from the United State Sports Academy, a Bachelor’s degree in General Studies from the University of Nevada, Reno and an Associate’s degree from YVC. Currently living in Wapato, Wilson has two daughters-- Paris, a sophomore on the Yak Women's Basketball team and and Siena, a freshman at Sunnyside High School. When he is away from his daughters or the hardwood court, Wilson can usually be found in the community building up the youth through his Triple Double Academy mentoring program.
